ITCS Memo # 1762

Gentlemen,

A bad spot:

USCG NOTICE TO MARINERS EIGHTH DISTRICT NR 0260-01 UM
UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER SHOALING HAS BEEN RPTD BETWEEN MILE 413-415 WITH A MINIMUM DEPTH OF 9 FT AT MILE 413.8, 15 YARDS OFF THE CAN BUOY LINE, WITH L/D 18'S UPPER GAUGE AT 12.2 FT ON 8 JUN 01. MARINERS ARE URGE TO USE EXTREME CAUTION TRANSITING THIS AREA.

Be careful.

Side note. The tenders have been seeing a lot of buoy missing on their south trip home. They are fixing what they can (WYACONDA ran out of sinkers). We know the water is deep and fast. We understand that some buoys will be lost. We have been setting the buoys so when the river falls out you will have a good channel, which is happening north of Dubuque. When the WYACONDA gets home they will be loading so they can head south of Dubuque. The SCIOTO will be heading south to service from 200 to L/D 20 as soon as the water fall out some more, its still over flood south of Keokuk so I don't have a date yet, but as soon as the water drops SCIOTO will be heading south, not north. So please let your boats know it will be weeks before the boats can make another run north of their homeports to fix problems the continued high water is causing.

tks
paul

Note: ACOE Rock Island has dispatched a mechanical dredge to UM mile 413.8 to begin dredging operations.
