Lock No. 24, MM 273.4 Upper Mississippi River

All navigation interests are advised that the St. Louis District has completed the first 2 closures at Lock 24 for construction of a protection cell in the upstream lock approach area. The Corps of Engineers was able to complete the necessary work during the first 2 scheduled closures. Therefore the 3rd scheduled closure ins not necessary and has been cancelled.

Note: A 12 hour closure for final concrete placement may be scheduled mid May. If required, a separate navigation notice will be issued for this closure.


1. Completed! 1st Closure, 48 hours: From 0600 hours 19 March 2007 through 0600 hours 21 March 2007 to install and grout pipe piles.

2. Completed! 2nd Closure, 72 hours: From 0600 hours 26 March 2007 through 0600 hours 29 March 2007 to install structural steel cell and place concrete.

3. Cancelled! 3rd Closure, 24 hours: From 0600 hours 30 March 2007 through 0600 hours 31 March 2007 to place concrete.

During the period of construction operations, 12 March 2007 through mid-May 2007, the construction Contractor will provide a helper boat, M/V L. P. Wright. All tows entering or exiting the upstream Lock gates shall be required to use the assistance of the helper boat.

During the time period of the closures tows will not be allowed to wait on the guide walls unless directed by the Lockmaster. All navigation interest should be alert for, and abide by, any special instructions that may be issued by the Lockmaster in conjunction with this project.
