ITCS Memo # 2565

The contractor is scheduled to start disconnecting the hydraulics on the land-wall side of the lock chamber next Tuesday, July 10th; they will start working on removal and replacement of this equipment. So, we will be operating the left miter gates with the tender boats, and also return to one fill and one empty valve. This will add to the locking times, especially for doubles. This outage will last for approx. 45 days. In addition, since the contractor will be working on the land side of the chamber we will be unable to operate the tow haulage units most, if not all
of the time (there will be an open trench along much of the land-side
lock chamber wall during this outage). Many of you may have already heard about this; we will assist by coordinating self-help for double lockages. If a towing company does not wish to participate, or cannot participate in self-help then they can line up a harbor tug to pull their cut. As always, we will do the best we possibly can to keep traffic moving efficiently. In addition again, the contractor has tentatively scheduled the 3-day closure
(for the electrical switchover) starting Monday, July 30 and going
through Wednesday, August 1. We will submit a navigation notice when the dates are locked in more firmly.
