This message has been received from the Louisville District ACOE:

The lockmaster at L/D 52 just called to report the 600' chamber is closed due to a mechanical failure. The sector gear arm on the lower river wall gate leaf has broken in half. Project personnel have located a spare arm and are in the process of planning the repair. All extra hands from 52 are assisting with raising the dam at 53 so we are recruiting personnel from Smithland.

Losing the 600' chamber impacts traffic more than normal because of the draft restriction on the 1,200' chamber due to a lower gage of 8.5".

Another message will be sent when we have an estimate of the outage duration. At this point it is safe to say the chamber will be closed for at least the next eight hours.
