Subject: Lock 16, mile 457 UMR tow haulage unit on lower wall is out.
ITCS Memo # 2585

The tow haulage unit on the lower wall at Lock 16 is inoperable. Parts are expected to arrive tomorrow morning (Aug 22nd) to make repairs.
They are flushing down bound cuts now but the rising river is expected to bring the tail water up to a level that will put an end to flushing.
The lockmen will be opening gates on the dam and making repairs to the tow haulage unit tomorrow so repairs will take a little longer than normal.
The tug service at Muscatine will be notified that industry may be calling for assistance to pull their down bown cuts. As soon as repairs are made the lock will go back to normal operations.
