Subject: Locks 27 Mile 185.5 UMR, Main chamber closed
ITCS Memo # 2597

All navigation interests are advised that the main chamber at
Locks 27,Mile 185.5 UMR, will be closed 0600 - 1800 hours during the period 17 - 22 September 2007 for emergency repairs to the lift gate due to damage caused by an allision.

The main chamber will reopen daily from 1800 to 0600 hours.
The 600 foot auxiliary chamber will remain open but is not
equipped with a tow haulage unit. Current restrictions imposed by the Department of Homeland Security prevent industry self-help. Therefore, to facilitate safe and efficient navigation and to ensure security of the lock, the District will provide a helper boat to pull first cuts from the auxiliary chamber during main chamber closure hours.

All navigation interests should be alert for, and abide by, any
special instructions that may be issued by the Lockmaster in conjunction with this situation.
